Lawyers filed a petition Monday
in courts asking that Rome prosecutors aim to detain Mehmet Ali
Agca as part of a probe into the disappearance in 1983 of
Emanuela Orlandi. Agca served 19 years in Italian custody after
he shot and wounded Pope John Paul II in 1981. After that, he
was deported to his native Turkey where he served 10 years.
Earlier this month he said he wants to visit the pope's tomb but
Italy had not granted him a visa. He also told ANSA that Orlandi
is still alive and Vatican officials know where she is.
